Delia
Gonzales (formerly of Culturas) has been a major Tejano
singer since 1992. In 1993 Culturas exploded onto the Tejano
scene with Delia as a major component of the band. In 1995
the band went to a major change which launched Delia into
a solo career. With much support from her fans Delia continued
touring the scenes, this time as Delia y Culturas. She recorded
several albums under EMI and Freddie Records, Still retaining
the quality Tejano sound that she was recognized and known
for.
On September 27, 1998 Delia y Culturas performed for the
then president of the United States, William Jefferson “Bill”
Clinton. It was one of Delia’s most memorable moments,
and an opportunity few musicians ever get; meeting, speaking
with, and performing for the president of their country.
Delia is very involved in the community, both here in San
Antonio, and her home town of Crystal City, as well as throughout
Texas. The band has played for fundraisers and benefits,
donating their time and talent. Most recently they played
for a dinner/dance at St. Bosco, benefiting the school’s
first ever band program.
Delia Gonzales is an Archival Donor at the University
of Texas at Arlington which sponsors a research program
put together by the Center of Mexican Americans Studies
to help preserve the history of Tejano Music and Hispanic
public figures. Again the ever-changing chameleon that
her talent allows her to be, Delia is now entering another
phase in her music. Her group is now simply called “Delia
Gonzales,” and promises to deliver the best in Tejano
sound and entertainment.
