| Biography:
Remember the “Chicano Music Era?” Remember the
memorable mid 1970’s when Johnny Rodriguez, Freddy Fender,
Cactus Country Band featuring Janie C and Country Roland reigned?
Well now Hacienda Records takes you on a stroll to the past
with the digitally re-mastered re-issue of “El Rey De
Country” and revives those wonderful moments from the
70’s epoch we loved so much. Roland Garcia (Country
Roland) tells us, “The idea of transposing country and
western to Spanish was something I had always toyed with.
I like country music because it’s simple tear-jerking
music and it comes from the heart.” He goes on to say,
“to me it’s the only music because it belongs
to everyone.” Country Roland was born in
Falfurrias, Texas and raised in McAllen, Texas where he
worked as a truck driver. After learning to play the guitar,
he formed his first band, Country Roland and the Valley
Boys and became an overnight success as he toured Texas
with the much loved country sound that audiences raved about.
“El Rey De Country” is definitely a collector’s
addition containing such big hits as “Welcome to My
World,” “La Barca De Oro,” “Mexicali
Rose,” “Wedding Bells” and his huge hit
“Cotton Eyed Joe” just to name a few. During
his heydays, Country Roland wrote and performed the “Country
Roland Schottis” which is also included in this CD
release. The best part about “El Rey De Country”
is that Country Roland is still performing and his music
is still in demand. Unquestionably, Country Roland is a
Rio Grande Valley living legend and Hacienda Records is
downright proud to present this digital re-mastered state
of the art sound on compact disc.
